The
bumper sticker I created is supposed to be displayed by a parent in the Stilts,
the part of Norta where Mare is from. House Welle controls this area, and those
who are conscripted at the age of 18, and later 15, are recruited to fight for
their house. I wanted to make a bumper sticker that plays with the idea of
patriotism and the power and influence that it holds over many people in our
country today. Instead of a yellow ribbon supporting our troops we have a green
and gold flag supporting the conscripted. Instead of a proud father of a marine
we have a proud parent of a daughter fighting for House Welle. Power comes in
all shapes and sizes, and patriotism, in a way, can be one of those forms.
General
Blood Donor Guidelines
You are willing to donate. That is a good start, but are those
with your blood type worth saving? Read these guidelines and see for
yourselves.
Your
Donation is of Moderate Interest to Us
Before donating, one of our Healers will discuss your health
history with you in a private, confidential setting. After taking your pulse,
blood pressure, and temperature and checking for anemia and color, we will
determine whether you are eligible to be a donor.
General
Guidelines
To donate blood you must be in good general health, weigh at
least 110 pounds, and be at least 16 15 years old. Parental consent is not required
for red blood donation by 16 15 year olds. Parental consent is required for those Silver Bloods
who are under 17 years old. If you are a Silver Blood who is 76 or older, you
will need your healer’s written approval for blood donation. If you are a red
blood who is 76 or older know that we are impressed with your longevity and
annoyed with your questioning. No blood will be taken from you.
What Is
‘Good’ Health?
Good health means that you feel well and are able to carry out
normal daily activities and power demonstrations. If you have a chronic medical
condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, you may still be eligible as
long as you are receiving treatment to control your condition.
Needed
Identification
We require that you provide identification that shows your name,
your house (or ruling house) and your photograph or signature.
What
Conditions Would Make You Ineligible to Be a Donor?
You will not be eligible to donate blood if you:
·
Have tested positive for hepatitis B or hepatitis C, lived with
or had sexual contact in the past 12 months with anyone who has hepatitis B or
symptomatic hepatitis C.
·
Had a tattoo in the past 12 months or received a blood
transfusion (except with your own blood) in the past 12 months.
·
Have ever had a positive test for the AIDS virus.
·
Are a Silver who has had sex with a red in the past 12 months.
·
Have ever used intravenous illegal drugs, even once.
·
Have ever used injectable drugs, including strongarm blood,
unless prescribed by a healer.
·
Have traveled to the choke or any other battleground within the
past five years (Unless you are Silver)
Blood donors must wait at least 56 days between blood donations.
Additional
Criteria
As Silver Bloods we
retain the right to deny service or donations from any red at our discretion.
The ability to donate blood for your fellow red is a luxury that can be taken
away. Remember, to us a newborn red is the same as a blood donation. Either way
we will make our quota, and the life still belongs to us.
